Game play

Before you start playing the Starship Troopers TC; there are several things you should learn about, get to know and be familiar with. These features are markers, triggers, timers, ladders, mission briefings, air strikes/cargo drops and the Skimmer Retrieval Boat.

Markers

Markers provide information about the status of the other players in multi player (Capture the flag) games, and of some game characters.
I.e.,"Show Weapons" feature of the game also places a marker that showes you what weapons your foe has selected.

In SST TC single player, markers are used to identify the Field Medic by placing a Red Cross marker over his head (left on the picture). In multi player CTF, markers provide information about the player's team color, flag status (does the player have the flag) and so forth (right part of the picture).

Triggers

At some points in the single player episodes you may get messages from the base, field teams or game characters. Very often, they are important and will provide vital information. Do not ignore these events (don't confuse triggers with game messages).

Mission Timers

Several levels in the SST TC are timed missions, meaning there is a time limit imposed over the mission. You can identify timers easily by the time printed at the top of the screen during the complete level.

Ladders

Almost all of the ladders in the SST TC are working ladders. To climb them, hit the "use" key (space by default), and crouch key to go down. You can stand on the ladders, jump on them, and off them. While you are climbing ladders, you cannot hold, and thus also cannot fire weapons.

Mission Briefings

Most of the missions in the SST TC will have a briefing room in-between levels, where you can rest for a while, read the latest news, gossips, and receive briefing for the next mission. To view the briefing, use the terminal access provided in your quarters. Simply approach the terminal and press the "USE" key (usually space).

Air Strikes/Cargo Drops

Throughout the SST TC levels, you will encounter friendly air strikes and occasional cargo drops of supplies.

Airplanes used are the atmospheric/free space tactical bombers (OA suite) armed with heavy non-radiation smart bombs. Bombs are quite deadly so stay way back!
Airplanes are also equipped to drop special supplies in order to supply MI Troopers on the ground. Sometimes these supplies make the thin line between life and death.

Skimmer Retrieval Boat

Most missions start and end with the Skimmer. This low-level atmospheric and free space aircraft utilizes detachable "pod" technology. MI Troopers are easily transported within the pods -- making the Skimmer much more maneuverable and fast when it comes to loading/unloading the troops than any other form of transportation. To board the Skimmer in the game, use the pod doors.
