Opening word

Starship Troopers TC is the first Total Conversion with gameplay focused more on outdoor ACTION instead of puzzles. Sure, puzzles are fun, but most of the time I found myself annoyed and frustrated with levels so confusing that only their respective authors can solve them.

SST has a very high strategic level involved, combining brain power and chain gun rounds in a very fun and quite an addictive way. Levels are big and open, featuring dynamic enemies and environment - even while you are doing nothing, the bugs could be planning a siege... The game will react to almost every input from you - ranging from air strikes and cargo drops, smart computer controlled Troopers and incredible dynamic music that changes as you engage in combat, timed missions, area triggers, to cool details such as the pieces that fall off the walls , ceilings, floors and even bugs.

Maps are mission based military tasks, at the start of (almost) every level you will get your orders and the briefing. Which way will you choose: the violent one - straight through the opposition, or thinking one - using hidden paths, alternate ways (which may require some puzzle solving), is up to you. To break the action component a bit, there will be some puzzle solving in SST, however those puzzles will be fun, logic, incorporating black humor, refreshing and not very hard - the way you would make it.

Starship Troopers TC is a great opportunity for a Cooperative multiplayer frenzy! What's cooler than hooking up with a friend or two and defending a lonely outpost on Planet P? Experience the scenes from the movie - with a Morita in your hands!

You will also be able to test your skill in fully functional Capture the Flag mode, that brings a completely new level of gameplay, and, of course, Duke Match levels.

And finally, SST TC has some incredible effects and technology achievements. Several of them, such as the particle system encountered in games like Sin or Quake 2, were never before done in Build engine. It took as long time to perfect all of the features - I hope you'll enjoy it.

Our fans called the TC "better than Zero Hour, cooler than Half Life". Our site broke all records in number of visits, popularity and "coolness" factor for a Duke Nukem Total Conversion. We spent a lot of time making the best damn free project we think saw the face of this planet because we think you deserve it.

Please copy this TC to all of your friends.

Introduction

Starship Troopers is a Total Conversion (currently for Duke Nukem 3D only), based on the blockbuster movie "Starship Troopers" and book under the same name written by Robert Anson Heinlein. It's a story about an epic battle between the Terran Unity and Klendathu Arachnids, race of huge insects.

What is a TC anyway?

Total Conversions are game patches, in most cases made by teams rather than single person, that add new and change almost all features of the original game. The term TC should not be confused with addons, which use the existing game features and add new maps, sounds, or characters.
Total Conversions are, simply put, brand new games, made by fans for the fans, and are usually freeware.

System requirements*

Although we have done everything possible to make the SST playable on lower class PCs, due to the vast open areas and particle effects, minimum is a Pentium 166 with 16 megs of RAM. This, however, depends on your system configuration. A solid Pentium 200 will run the game much better with no lagging on more demanding maps.

Recommended system
P233 (Intel) or higher enabling you to experience the real SST atmosphere. You will also need a good hard drive to get the most of the game play.

Preferred system
PII300 or better, fast video card.

* estimations are based on 640x480 res, best sound, all SFX channels

It is recommended to run the game from DOS, if you experience crashes and lags.
