ALIENS H&K VP70

Alberta Industrial Models has informed me of the following project they recently did. If you would like to get more information about this project, please visit their site. Images below are © Alberta Industrial Models, and used here with written permission.

Along with it's array of impressive "designed" weaponry, ALIENS also featured a few pieces of "real steel". One of these was the Heckler and Koch VP70. An extremely rare gun, the VP70 is fully automatic, and was available with a shoulder stock. It is often mistaken for other weapons of a similar design. One thing that makes it distinct though is it's shear size. Viewed without something to give it scale, it appears to be smaller than most handguns. It is somewhat surprising how big this piece really is when seen in person.

As a general rule, when looking for a replica of a firearm, even from a film, I prefer to go AirSoft. However, I have never been able to locate an AirSoft replica of the VP-70. I have heard rumors that one was made, but have yet to actually see it. Therefore, I started looking for a non-firing reproduction. Currently, Alberta Industrial Models can fill this bill. They offer a 1:1 scale resin replica of the VP-70 which comes assembled. You will need to some clean-up and filling, as well as the painting.

The replica appears to be cast in a two pieces which are put together already when the piece arrives. This is all that is pre-done though. As with any resin kit, you will need to do some filling of air pockets and such. One word of warning here: Be careful when unpacking and examining the kit. The lower lip of the clip is extremely thin, and mine had broken off during shipping. This can easily be fixed with cyanocrylate, but be careful not to throw out the box without checking to see if the part is in there. Other than that, you will need to prime and paint the VP70 in order to complete it.

Definitely another piece to be added to any ALIENS fan's full-scale collention.
