Matt sends a new pic.
I took this one at a con I went to this past weekend...

Tomb Raider guns: Some info.
Hey guys,

Everybody has been wondering about those mags, and grip extension that were put on the USP Matches. The grip extension is actually called the "Jet-Funnel." It's used for providing extra gripping surface, and as a clip guide so the pistol can be reloaded quicker. It takes a special magazine to use with the jet-funnel. Both are normally found with the USP Expert model pistol. Just check out the official H&K link that you already have on the page, but look at the accessories section. Also look at the USP Expert, and it will show picks of the gun with the Jet-funnel attached.

Here is the link to both HECKLER & KOCH HOMEPAGE, HECKLER & KOCH HOMEPAGE. They say the same thing, but one should go to accessories, and the other should go to the Expert.

The Jet-funnel, and the magazines are available, and can be purchased from HKPRO: The Unofficial Website For The Uncompromising Heckler & Koch Enthusiast. The matches used in the Movie are 9mmX19, were also made available in .40, .45 cal. Unfortunately the USP Match model has been discontinued. This would make any Matches still out there a very popular collectors item. I know...they always discontinue the best ones. I intend on writing the Main HK website to see if the components used to make the match (barrel extension, and counterweight) could be made available as individual items. So, if myself, or someone owned a regular USP wanted to make it look like a Match we could do so.

The adjustable sights that are found on the Match are also found on the USP Tactical. These sights are also available from the above link (HKPro). If you would like the parts used for the Match to be made available for purchase I suggest that everyone write the official HK site and tell them so.

Now, about the ambidextrous Slide Lock. Well, here is basically what they did. They put that slide lock on only one of the pistols The other is is not changed. The modified Match has had the safety moved to the other side with the slice lock so that Lara has a right, and left pistol. The purpose of this is mainly so that the slide lock, and safety are on the outside of the holsters giving the guns the ability to fit flush into the holsters. The modified pistol is the Right hand gun. The picture that you were showing is a reverse image of the gun. You can tell this since the serial numbers, and HK logo are backwards in the image, like in a mirror. So, the picture you are displaying of the modified gun is actually showing the right hand side of the gun, and not the left. The left hand gun is unchanged because the safety, and slide lock are already facing away from the inside of the left holster. So, there is no need to change it. The left pistol still has the standard slide lock.

Whew!!! Hope I didn't confuse anybody. That's all the extra info on Lara Crofts Matches. Any other questions feel free to ask. Hope I was of some help.

Later,
Mark

Catching up:

Matthew Worsdell.

"Most of my prop gun interests lie in Hypothetical weapons that never existed except in comics and gaming. Here is a pic of a recent project of mine. It's a bolter from the warhammer role playing game series. Its made mostly of wood clad in styrene. (... more info about me)." This is really nice! Please send more pics!

"I'm writing to comment on what was written on sci-firearms.com about the HK USP used in Tomb Raider. This is not a Hybrid gun. This may be a gun with after market mag and slide stop, I haven't found info on these yet. But the rest can be found as the USP MATCH STAINLESS 9mm x 19 on the German HK web site. Here is the link. http://www.heckler-koch.de/html/english/civil/01_pistols/01_07_index.html The photo you show on your site is reversed. That is the right side of the gun. The slide stop is an ambidextrous stop. HK offered an ambidextrous stop at one time. The one shown in your photo is probably it but I haven't been able to confirm it yet. I could not find out what type of magazine is in it. It looks to be an extended mag. Might be aftermarket, might be made up for movie to work with the Croft reloading rig. Everything else is standard for the USP MATCH STAINLESS 9mm x 19. I confirmed they are 9mm by some of the promotional photos for the movie. Hope this helps you." Thank you for the details... you have a good eye!
